PUNE, India: GE Aerospace has announced a significant new investment of $14 million to expand and upgrade its Pune manufacturing facility in India, bringing the company’s total recent commitment to the site to $44 million over the last two years. The new capital injection, coinciding with the plant's 10th anniversary, is earmarked for advanced automation and upgraded manufacturing processes to strengthen the site's capabilities in producing complex, high-tech components for GE’s most advanced commercial jet engines, including the GEnx, GE9X, and CFM LEAP platforms.
The investment underscores GE Aerospace’s accelerated commitment to the 'Make in India' initiative, positioning the Pune facility as an increasingly critical node in its global supply chain. The site has successfully evolved from a multi-business manufacturing center to a specialized aerospace parts supplier.
Vishwajit Singh, Managing Director of the Pune facility, highlighted the plant’s strategic importance: "This investment reflects our dedication to the 'Make in India' initiative and to advancing India's role in global aerospace manufacturing."
The facility’s operational success is attributed to FLIGHT DECK, GE Aerospace's proprietary lean operating model that relentlessly prioritizes safety, quality, and efficiency (SQDC). The model has driven significant productivity gains, resulting in reduced waste, improved process efficiency, and shorter lead times on critical component lines.
In addition to its manufacturing prowess, the Pune site acts as a major talent incubator, having trained over 5,000 production associates in precision manufacturing over the last decade. Furthermore, the facility supports a robust local ecosystem, relying on a network of over 300 suppliers in Pune, part of the broader 2,200 suppliers GE Aerospace partners with across India.
GE Aerospace’s long-standing partnership with India also extends to the defense sector, powering the Indian Air Force's Tejas Mk1 aircraft and key naval assets. This latest expansion solidifies India’s emergence not just as a consumer, but as a major global producer of critical aerospace technologies. [ANI]
