New Delhi, India: IndiGo Airlines is set to enter the widebody, long-haul market in 2025 by wet-leasing six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners from Norse Atlantic Airways. Two aircraft will commence operations in February, with the remaining four joining by September.

The move signals IndiGo's ambitions to establish a strong presence in long-haul routes, with London and Paris identified as potential inaugural destinations. Currently, IndiGo operates two wet-leased Boeing 777-300ERs from Turkish Airlines, limited to flights connecting Delhi and Mumbai to Istanbul.

In parallel, IndiGo is negotiating with Airbus to expedite the delivery of its 30 firm-ordered A350-900s, initially scheduled for 2027, as part of its broader long-haul strategy.

Norse Atlantic Airways, seeking to grow its ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) revenue, recently announced plans to lease six B787-9s to an unnamed global airline, now revealed as IndiGo. This arrangement aligns with India's relaxed ACMI policies, designed to support airline growth amid a limited supply of new aircraft.

IndiGo's foray into widebody operations marks a significant milestone, positioning the carrier to compete in the burgeoning long-haul market.
