Malaysia: Malaysia Airlines is significantly expanding its East Malaysia operations with 214 additional flights during two peak travel periods, offering enhanced connectivity and fixed-fare options for year-end festivities and Chinese New Year celebrations. The expansion rollout includes 112 red-eye flights from December 19, 2024, to January 1, 2025, followed by 102 additional flights during Chinese New Year from January 24 to February 4, 2025. The airline has also introduced competitive fixed one-way fares starting at RM 349 to Sabah and Sarawak.
The year-end service boost comprises 66 new flights to Sabah's destinations, including Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, and Tawau, along with 46 flights to Sarawak's Kuching and Miri. This strategic increase brings the total flight count to 596 during the festive period, while Chinese New Year service will rise to 219 weekly flights connecting East Malaysia.
Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer of Airlines from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), emphasized the airline's commitment to responding to evolving customer needs. He highlighted their strategy of combining affordable fares with increased frequencies to strengthen Malaysia Airlines' position as the preferred carrier.
The expansion extends beyond domestic routes, with the airline adding a seventh daily flight to Jakarta starting January 28, 2025, enhancing Malaysia-Indonesia connectivity. This addition caters to both business travelers and tourists, reinforcing the airline's regional presence.
To ensure smooth travel during these peak periods, Malaysia Airlines recommends passengers utilize online check-in services, arrive three hours before departure, and allow extra time for airport procedures. Travelers are advised to keep travel documents easily accessible and monitor flight updates through official channels. The special fares are available exclusively through Malaysia Airlines' official website and mobile app, designed to facilitate family reunions during these significant cultural celebrations, embodying the airline's commitment to Malaysian Hospitality from booking to arrival.
