Despite a notable decline in retail sales to their lowest point in three years, the prices of preowned single-engine helicopters have remained robust, as reported in Aero Asset's Heli Market Trends 2023 Single-engine Report. The report highlights a 50 percent drop in retail sales volume compared to 2022, accompanied by a 30 percent increase in the supply of single-engine helicopters for sale. However, average asking prices saw a 4 percent rise, with transaction prices experiencing a significant 13 percent year-over-year increase.

Aero Asset, a Toronto-based helicopter broker and market intelligence company, observed a deterioration in absorption rates throughout 2023, ultimately stabilizing at a reasonable one-year supply at current trade levels by year-end.

The report identifies Bell’s 407 series as the most active and liquid market in 2023, with the Airbus EC130B4/H130 ranking as the least liquid. Following closely were the Airbus AStar AS350B3 and -B3e/H125, with the Leonardo AW119 series rounding out the list.

Regionally, North America dominated the market, constituting 62 percent of transactions in 2023, while Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Europe made up 14 percent, 12 percent, and 9 percent, respectively. Notably, Europe experienced a 70 percent year-over-year drop. In terms of supply, Europe led with 36 percent, trailed by North America at 22 percent, and Asia-Pacific and Latin America both at 17 percent. The rest of the world contributed 8 percent to the supply of single-engine helicopters for sale.
