Executive Chairman of Nepal Air Service Corporation (Nepal Airlines) Yuvraj Adhikari is visiting Thailand since last Monday. Visiting an airline company and that too to a destination with regular flights may not at first sight be considered unnatural. But the trend of the official going on foreign tours after becoming the leader of Nepal Airlines is questionable.
Firstly, the officer does not get approval from the board before going on any foreign tour. There is a rule that a decision must be made by the board when going on a foreign visit as the chairman of the corporation board, but the officer has not followed this rule. Is it because the officer is the executive chairman that he has not taken approval from the board for any foreign visit so far," said a board member.
The current visit to Thailand has also taken place in a similar purchase situation. Instead of making any purchase transparent, they go to foreign countries and deal with it. From choosing a hotel to GSA, the officials themselves have reached the deal.
This is why now the board is pushing to select MRO for engine repair. Officials are back in Thailand as the contract to lease engines for MRO and grounded Airbus from July 17 has reached its final stage.
He used to take approval from the ministry himself, but this time he did not make any decision from the board. According to corporation sources, the corporation currently does not have any programs in Thailand. The only purpose of the official's visit is to hire a company to hire an engine and have a commission deal in selecting an MRO for maintenance, claims an operator of the corporation.
Sources claim that while the engine taken in March 2022 is being taken until August 12, 2023, the official is going to choose a new company for the commission and went to Thailand for that, despite suggesting to extend the engine rental period.
